The other day on Instagram, I asked this question:
And of the three dozen responses, only one writer was a traditionally published author, meaning they have successfully sold their books to publishing houses. The rest of those who responded were from the indie community, authors who have self-published their work.
Like most anything else, self-publishing has its positives and negatives. Creative control, for example, is a positive while marketing support is a negative.
The indie author is responsible for 100% of their marketing.
This is why I wasn’t surprised that “marketing” was the resounding response to the question “What is the hardest thing about being a writer?”
Feeling compelled to do something to help my fellow indies, I decided the best thing I could possibly do is share their work. I know I love it when others share my work; therefore, today I’m sharing the love and doing the same.
I’ve opened an indie bookstore on my website. On this page, you can find the work of those indie authors who participated in this conversation, along with others whose work I believe in with my whole heart. Titles are organized by genre, and I do not receive a penny from any sale. All royalties go directly to the authors. My payment is knowing I (hopefully) helped someone else.
I hope you will explore this indie bookstore and that you find a title or two to add to the top of your TBR stack!
Happy reading!

Such a good idea….marketing can be such a challenge.
